Playbill for LRSC presentation of The Amish Project

You are invited to join the LRSC Playmakers for their upcoming production of The Amish Project.

Jessica Dickey’s The Amish Project is a powerful fictional retelling inspired by the real-life tragic shooting of 10 schoolgirls from Nickel Mines Amish schoolhouse in Pennsylvania on October 2, 2006.

Originally conceived as a one-woman show, the play has since evolved into an ensemble piece featuring a cast of seven or more, portraying a range of characters including the Amish schoolgirls, the shooter, his grieving wife, and members of the surrounding community.

What sets The Amish Project apart is not just its emotional depth and theatrical innovation, but its exploration of the Amish community’s extraordinary response to the violence. In the wake of unimaginable loss, the community chose forgiveness over vengeance, extending compassion even to the family of the shooter.

This act of grace shocked and moved the world, challenging conventional ideas about justice and healing.

Through raw emotion, this play invites audiences to reflect on the power of empathy and the human capacity for forgiveness. The Amish Project is not only a tribute to those affected by the tragedy but also a meditation on how communities can respond to darkness with light.
