Other Types of Aid

Nursing Student Loan

This loan is available for students majoring in Nursing. The maximum amount for the academic year is $2,000. Interest is 5% and begins to accrue nine months after a student graduates, withdraws, drops below half-time status, or changes majors.


North Dakota University System

NDUS has financial aid programs, grants, scholarships, and state reciprocity agreements to help students reduce or cover education costs.


North Dakota Health Service Corps

The ND Health Service Corps includes four statewide programs providing financial support to selected health care providers serving underserved communities.


Tribal

Native American students in federally recognized tribes should contact their local tribal agency for Bureau of Indian Affairs funding eligibility. Native American Scholarship Resources.


North Dakota National Guard

Active North Dakota National Guardsman in the Army or Air Guard may have a large portion of their tuition waived. For information on eligibility requirements, contact your local National Guard unit or the Office of Adjutant General, ATTN: MPO, P.O. Box 5511, Bismarck, ND 58506-5511


Active Duty Tuition Assistance

Military Tuition Assistance (MilTA) – MilTA funds are a unique, distinct source of financial aid available to eligible Service members. These funds are considered first if other forms of financial aid are being utilized.


Veterans Administration (VA) Benefits

Veterans may be able to receive special educational assistance. Benefits have also been extended to children, wives, and widows of deceased or permanently and totally disabled veterans. The Student Services Office can assist with VA-related questions or problems. Applications and more information can also be obtained from any Veterans Administration Regional Office.


Vocational Rehabilitation

Students with physical limitations or health problems may be entitled to certain benefits such as tuition, fees, and textbook reimbursement. Interested students should communicate with the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation at the nearest district or regional office.


Waivers

A limited number of waivers are available annually to help pay your tuition.


Non-Institutional Scholarships

Many outside agencies and sources offer financial assistance to students. The Internet, high school counselors, and most libraries are excellent resources to search for scholarship opportunities. Search for scholarships at Fastweb.


Stay in North Dakota

Incentives are available to students enrolled in several programs, including Technology, Nursing, Sign Language, and Education. The incentives may be in the form of grants or loan forgiveness. For more information, contact the Financial Aid Office.


Alternative Loans

Designed to assist students with educational costs after all other financial aid programs are utilized. Interest charges on these loans vary depending on the lender and the loan type. Students need to be credit-worthy borrowers and oftentimes need a cosigner for the loan. The minimum loan a student can borrow is $500 per academic year. Students may choose an alternative loan program and must complete a separate application with the lender. LRSC, through FAST Choice, offers a Historical Lender List that includes lenders we have worked with in the past. You may choose a lender that is not on the list.


College SAVE 529 Plan 

A tax-advantaged education savings program by the state through the Bank of North Dakota helps save college costs.

Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA)

Through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act, Job Service North Dakota services to help individuals achieve their employment goals. A variety of job search assistance services are available to all individuals. Expanded services, such as funds for relocation or training, are available to qualifying individuals. Contact a local North Dakota Job Service office to apply for funds that may cover tuition, fees, books, and supplies. For best consideration application should be made 6 months before enrollment.
