Lake Region State College Playmakers will take to the stage later this month for The Imaginary Invalid by Moliere and adapted by April Hubbard.
“The play is a comedy satirizing human folly”, says director April Hubbard.
Leeches, bloodletting, and enemas: these were some of the common procedures in 17th Century medicine.
In Moliere’s play, The Imaginary Invalid, the character of Argan is obsessed with his health and a miser. To get the medical care (for free) that he wants, he commands his daughter to marry a doctor. Hilarity ensues when the saucy maid, Toinette, conspires with others to free Argan’s daughter to marry her true love and reveal Argan’s foolishness in the process. A delightful satire with farcical action and ridiculous characters, Moliere pokes fun at hypochondriacs and the state of medicine in the 1600’s.
The show runs February 29th through March 3rd with shows at 7:30 pm February 29th to March 2nd and a 2:00 pm matinee March 3rd. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for senior citizens and kids, and free to students. All shows are in Robert Fawcett Auditorium.
