Devils Lake Community

The city of Devils Lake, North Dakota is a premier vacation and living destination year-round. Devils Lake derives its name from the Native American name Miniwauken ("Spirit Water") and is the largest natural body of water in North Dakota. Devils Lake covers over 190,000 acres and retains hundreds of miles of shoreline. The prairie lake grows large numbers of walleye, northern pike, and white bass and has earned the reputation of being the "Perch Capital of the World". Devils Lake has been ranked as one of the top five fishing lakes in the U.S. Additionally, during fall hundreds of thousands of waterfowl migrate through the area creating fantastic hunting opportunities for local and visiting hunters.

Devils Lake's population is approximately 7,100 with over 500 businesses and unique shops and great career opportunities. Our medical facilities, schools, and park system provide state-of-the-art technology and professional, caring staff and educators to enhance the quality of life for residents and the college community.

Devils Lake has a wonderful public education system with multiple elementary schools, a middle school, a high school, and Lake Region State College, a two-year community college. The college, which works closely with the primary and secondary education in Devils Lake, was founded in 1941 as an extension to the already prominent twelve-year public school system and was accredited in 1973. In more recent years, Lake Region State College has been developing its Royals Athletics programs, including golf, volleyball, men's and women's basketball, baseball, and fastpitch softball, and causing a rippling effect creating more participation in youth through high school activities. LRSC is committed to serving the educational needs of the citizens of North Dakota, with a special commitment to northeastern North Dakota and the Lake Region.
