WASHINGTON – The U.S. Department of Labor today announced the latest 98 additions to the 205 organizations already serving as Apprenticeship Ambassadors to help the department promote and support Registered Apprenticeship opportunities nationwide.
Lake Region State College is one of those 98 new apprenticeship ambassadors.
In November 2021, the department launched its Apprenticeship Ambassador Initiative with an inaugural cohort of over 200 Ambassadors. These ambassadors committed to promoting Registered Apprenticeships as a high-quality workforce development strategy to meet the needs of high-demand industries while expanding equitable opportunities for workers from historically underserved and underrepresented communities.
“With today’s announcement, the Department of Labor has recruited 303 organizations to raise their voices in support of Registered Apprenticeships and help strengthen an economy that works for all by increasing awareness of and access to good-paying jobs,” said Acting Assistant Secretary for Employment and Training Brent Parton. “Our Apprenticeship Ambassadors represent industries that are key to rebuilding our nation’s infrastructure, bolstering its advanced manufacturing capabilities, and expanding equitable access to Registered Apprenticeships in many industries.”
The second cohort of Apprenticeship Ambassadors represent emerging and high-growth industries, such as information technology/cybersecurity, education, healthcare, and clean energy. Collectively, they have committed to the following actions:
Developing 308 new Registered Apprenticeship programs and 146 resources such as contributing to toolkits, fact sheets, or other physical or digital materials in their first year.
Hosting 495 outreach and recruitment activities that recruit apprentices into programs and nearly 300 training, technical assistance sessions and promotional meetings to increase knowledge and understanding of registered apprenticeships.
Holding 240 outreach and recruitment activities and 180 training sessions focused specifically on reaching marginalized populations.
The department’s Office of Apprenticeship will collaborate with Apprenticeship Ambassadors to promote Registered Apprenticeship across the country throughout the coming months and culminating during—National Apprenticeship Week, Nov. 13-19, 2023.
