First and foremost, PTK recognizes students for their scholastic achievements. However, if a student chooses to move beyond just “being a member,” PTK offers so much more. Students have a chance to earn multiple scholarships within Phi Theta Kappa. LRSC student Carla Moros was named the top scholar in North Dakota community colleges. That honor comes with a large scholarship.
Lake Region State College’s Phi Theta Kappa Chapter was started in the Fall of 2007, with official status in April 2008. It became part of an international organization established in 1918 under four pillars:

Fellowship
In addition to monthly meetings, PTK in involved with various campus-wide events that utilize a combination of service, scholastic, and leadership skills:
- Literacy projects (Gingerbread houses and books; reading to children, book give away, Blue Castle “Take a book, leave a book”
- Service Projects (Operation Shoebox, Blanket making, food drives, Adopt a Highway)
- Academic Events (Banned Book Study, Online Escape Room, Murder Mystery Live, Trivia)
- Student Senate Events (competitions, films, speakers)
