Employees at Lake Region State College with the assistance of Thrivent Financial donated supply packets to the Supportive Services for Veterans Families here in Devils Lake.
Supportive Services for Veterans Families provides support to veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Ramsey County and neighboring counties.
The Thrivent funds provided 12 new backpacks and LRSC employees donated miscellaneous goods for the packs. Items provided included shampoo, conditioner, body wash, bar soap, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, other cleaning/hygiene products, gloves, hats, flashlights, sunglasses, chapstick, and snacks.
Once the backpacks were filled, extra supplies were donated to the agency’s pantry where individuals can “shop” for what they need at no cost.
Last year, Supportive Services for Veteran Families handed out over 100 backpacks. On the day LRSC donated the backpacks to the organization, some were immediately on their way to customers.
Each year, Lake Region State College employees volunteer to assist a local agency or support a community need. The efforts are led by the college’s Staff Senate.
