Randy Olson earns state honor

Randy Olson, Associate Professor with Lake Region State College’s Automotive Technology Program, received high honors at the North Dakota Association of Career and Technical Educators (NDACTE) annual conference.

Olson was presented the NDACTE Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year award.  This award recognizes post-secondary educators who are providing excellent career and technical programs for youth and/or adults in the respective fields and communities.

These awards recognize members and outside organizations and supporters for their contributions to career and technical education.

He has been instrumental in leading the program through accreditation with the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation. Lake Region State College President Doug Darling said Olson’s detail to making sure the curriculum aligned to standards is matched by his love to teach.

“Randy works with his advisory board to insure new practices are being addressed in the classroom and helps employ many of the students that he has had in the classroom. One of the more innovative ideas he has implemented is the creation of a classroom that mimics a present-day auto shop, thus learning in the same environment in which they will work once they become employed in the industry,” Darling said.

Olson will move on to ACTE Region V Conference in Bozeman, MT next April for consideration for the ACTE Region V Post-Secondary Teacher of the Year.

The North Dakota Association of Career and Technical Educators (NDACTE) annual conference was held August 6th to 8th, 2018, at the Ramkota in Bismarck, ND.  The theme for this year’s conference was “Today’s Success, Tomorrows Future” which reflected how CTE has a role in education and the resources that CTE provides for all of education today and tomorrow.

Randy and his wife Cindy live in Devils Lake and are the parents of Ryan (Brandi) Olson and Ross and grandparents to Bearitt.
