Help Student SOAR
LRSC and the Community College Foundation invite you to help students SOAR (Scholarship Opportunities for Achievement and Recognition) by becoming a member of the Annual Scholarship Program. At Lake Region State College, we know there are students every year who fail to enroll or fail to finish the semester due to funding crises or discouragement. Well-placed scholarships can impact both concerns. Scholarships provide a financial boost, and they also provide recognition which strengthens confidence and helps students stay focused on the finish line—completing their certificate or degree program.
The Annual Scholarship and Program Support is a project of the Community College Foundation which also sponsors the Opportunities Annual Fund Campaign. Established in 1959, the foundation has 501(c)(3) status with the IRS and accepts gifts on behalf of Lake Region State College. Its 27-member board of directors is committed to good stewardship and works hard to direct support to the areas of greatest need.
How it Works
Annual Scholarship and Program sponsors make a commitment to fund a scholarship each year for a period of years—usually five years. Commitments of $500 per year, or larger, are encouraged. Sponsors are also encouraged to deliver funding for the scholarship/programs in early September to coincide with the start of the school year.
Sponsors work with Community College Foundation staff to define priorities for selecting recipients. Sponsors may participate in the selection process, as allowed by tax law and student record confidentiality standards. The Enrollment Management Office at LRSC employs an effective scholarship-match process which is available to assist in the Annual Scholarship and Program awarding process.
Annual Scholarship and Program sponsors and current-year recipients are recognized on a plaque. Each spring, the Community College Foundation provides an opportunity for sponsors and student recipients to meet each other.
